I came across this post on Droid Life today and I got all excited. As a Motorola Droid owner I am hopping that it is more than a rumor

We just received word from one of our most reliable sources that the official Android 2.2 update will be hitting the Motorola Droid starting July 13th. I know, I know, here we go again right? After the pain we all experienced with 2.1, it’s hard to even mention a rumored Froyo update date, but this one feels legitimate enough to share.

Let me just toss out some thoughts as to why this could easily happen…

1. We’ve already seen July mentioned in a couple of Verizon systems.
2. The Droid X arrives 2 days later on the 15th. What better way to keep your millions of Droid 1 customers happy than by dropping a major OS update on them a few days before a new device takes over the Droid throne.
3. July 13th is a Tuesday, and if you remember the 2.1 update, Verizon tends to like Tuesdays.
4. We saw the release of an extremely polished Droid Froyo build (FRF84B) this week which should mean we’re closer than ever.

Thoughts? Fingers and toes crossed?

This Android phone quietly snuck by all of us. We first seen this device at CES and hasn’t really heard much about it since then. It’s not a bad looking device and it has a nice screen similar to that found on the nexus one. This Android device will be available in China and it has some impressive specs to boot.

this phone has a 3.7-inch AMOLED, a leather case, a noise-isolation hands free kit, a magnetic dock adapter, 3.2-megapixel camera and a custom version of Android. It also includes Chinese social networking service integration, music store, video apps, and an impressive Chinese turn-by-turn navigation suite. It is missing autofocus and flash for the camera but it’s still a pretty decent handset. I wouldn’t mind playing with one for a few days.

We haven’t heard any information about this phone in a long time. If you all remember this phone is rumored to be the Google branded Nexus Two. Recently a device from Motorola, the Motorola MB810, passed through the Wi-Fi Alliance. Apparently this device has the codename Shadow which will likely be changed by the time it’s released.

Some rumored specs include, 4.3 inch capacitive touch screen display, full QWERTY keyboard, 8MP autofocus camera, and Android 2.2 and it has Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n. there has been a few reports that this device may land on Verizon, my guess is it will be a GSM device sold by Google and will be the second in the Nexus series of superphones. Only time will tell, these next few weeks should be very exciting for Android lovers that need a powerful device with a keyboard.

Why put up an April release in the last days of April? It has been almost four months now that Vodafone customers have been waiting for the Nexus so if this is true you can possibly put in your order today. I checked the Google phone page and it still says coming this spring. This phone will likely get the same subsidized treatment as the T-Mobile version. So whenever it is available get ready to get locked in for a specified amount of time, that isn’t a bad thing trust me, it’s a great handset and it will guaranteed get the rumored 2.2 before every other device

Would you like some kind of confirmation as to when you’re going to get some Android 2.1 goodness on your Sprint Android-based devices? You know the ones: the HTC Hero and Samsung Moment. Well, looks like we can finally put ourselves to some type of ease, as we’ve just seen an internal Sprint screenshot that details (without much detail) the upcoming release of the Android 2.1 upgrade.

We can also pretty much confirm that Sprint wanted to give the upgrade to the two Android handsets on its network at the same time. For whatever reason, they apparently wanted to make it reasonably fair for everybody. In any event, as you can see from the images herein, Sprint is saying that the upgrade to Android 2.1 for both the HTC Hero and Samsung Moment will be coming in early May. We’ll assume that’s the first week, but we could also see somewhere in the second week, too.

Those of you out there sitting on your hands, waiting every day for some kind of update to hit your phones should probably relax now. You’ve always known the update is coming, but now you can have some solace knowing it won’t be this month. So, start enjoying your phone as they are, because here soon they’re going to get a nice face lift. Excited?

This is good news and bad news. The Galaxy S is one of the most powerful Android handsets to be released in the near future

This is good news and bad news. The Galaxy S is one of the most powerful Android handsets to be released in the near future. It will most likely be the phone to have for gaming, as it stands it has the best GPU out of all the current Androids and every other handset. Time for the bad news, it passed through the FCC with AT&T 3G bands.

This device features an AMOLED display with 800 x 480 resolution, 1GHz processor, 5 megapixel rear-facing camera with support for 720p HD video recording at 30fps, front-facing VGA camera, Swype keyboard, HSDPA connectivity, GPS, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, Wi-Fi, microSD expansion (16GB included, up to 32GB supported), and Android 2.1. The main highlight is the Hummingbird GPU that is capable of producing graphics that can rival those found on an XBOX 360 PS3.

We all would love to see this thing come stateside but for any carrier other than AT&T. They have a track record of locking down their Android devices and replacing some of Google’s apps with their own bloatware. Hopefully they will leave this device as is, most likely they are going to mess this device up also.

It will be the first Android 2.1 device on Sprint and it will release before the EVO 4G. Like the Nexus one, it has 4 capacitive keys but has an optical tracpad. And it will feature TouchWiz 3.0 and a processor clock at 1GHZ or better. How all you current Moment owners feel about this?

Now that the long awaited 2.1 update for the Droid has hit, are you bored with it already? Root it and flash a custom ROM. And most custom ROM’s include the 3D draw and 5 home screens. There are many root apps that also add extra functionality to your phone.

How to Root DROID 2.1 Update

1. Downgrade using the 2.0.1 SBF file here.
2. Download the 2.1 update.zip from here.
3. Download the attached .zip file from here, and name it droid-ESE81-update-2.zip
4. Open command prompt and run the following command to combine them:
5. copy /b signed-voles-ESE81-from-ESD56.fa406da6.zip+droid-ESE81-update-2.zip update.zip
6. Then copy the update.zip to your SDCard, reboot to STOCK recovery
7. In recovery, press Volume + and Camera then use the D-pad to select Apply update.zip
8. Voila, DROID 2.1 has been rooted successfully.

Note: Proceed with caution, you will be responsible if anything goes wrong. We take no liability in anything that may go wrong. And, this does NOT update the recovery image to 2.1’s recovery.

Like the Android device that came before it on AT&T, the Aero will not have the ability to install apps from places other than the Android Market. So there are no installing apps from your SD card or the developer’s site on your Aero. Even Google themselves are against this with their refusal to allow AT&T and Dell to stamp this device with the “with Google” moniker. There’s no word on which Google apps will be replaced yet, expect to see Yahoo Search again and maybe a few other missing components.

How many times am I going to have to use this title AT&T? Let’s hope that this is the last time. It’s totally clear to everyone that they are trying their best to keep their deal with Apple’s iPhone. They are even willing to lose potential customers to do so. Is keeping the iPhone really that important? It’s near the end of its product life cycle, AT&T need to be more concerned with the next best thing or they will surely be left behind.See more here:

In the video the phone seems very responsive and quick. It still has that ugly back that I hope Verizon ditches in the production model. The specs are almost identical to those found in the Nexus One but this has an 8 megapixel camera with autofocus, an optical trackball the 1GHZ Snapdragon is underclocked to 768.
