Froyo Droid

I came across this post on Droid Life today and I got all excited. As a Motorola Droid owner I am hopping that it is more than a rumor :)

We just received word from one of our most reliable sources that the official Android 2.2 update will be hitting the Motorola Droid starting July 13th. I know, I know, here we go again right? After the pain we all experienced with 2.1, it’s hard to even mention a rumored Froyo update date, but this one feels legitimate enough to share.

Let me just toss out some thoughts as to why this could easily happen…

1. We’ve already seen July mentioned in a couple of Verizon systems.
2. The Droid X arrives 2 days later on the 15th. What better way to keep your millions of Droid 1 customers happy than by dropping a major OS update on them a few days before a new device takes over the Droid throne.
3. July 13th is a Tuesday, and if you remember the 2.1 update, Verizon tends to like Tuesdays.
4. We saw the release of an extremely polished Droid Froyo build (FRF84B) this week which should mean we’re closer than ever.

Thoughts? Fingers and toes crossed?

Root it and flash a custom ROM. And most custom ROM’s include the 3D draw and 5 home screens. There are many root apps that also add extra functionality to your phone.

How to Root DROID 2.1 Update

1. Downgrade using the 2.0.1 SBF file here.
2. Download the 2.1 update.zip from here.
3. Download the attached .zip file from here, and name it droid-ESE81-update-2.zip
4. Open command prompt and run the following command to combine them:
5. copy /b signed-voles-ESE81-from-ESD56.fa406da6.zip+droid-ESE81-update-2.zip update.zip
6. Then copy the update.zip to your SDCard, reboot to STOCK recovery
7. In recovery, press Volume + and Camera then use the D-pad to select Apply update.zip
8. Voila, DROID 2.1 has been rooted successfully.

Note: Proceed with caution, you will be responsible if anything goes wrong. We take no liability in anything that may go wrong. And, this does NOT update the recovery image to 2.1’s recovery.

Earlier there was also rumors about Android 2.1, the industry forecast may be pre-installed on Motorola’s Android phone Droid on.

The 2.1 version of the interface with the 1.5 version of the very similar. This also proves that HTC has the ability to upgrade Sense accordingly.

It is not clear when this version will launch in the end, but taking into account the operator Sprint has just released version of the upgrade, some carriers launched an updated version of take some time.
