Originally meant to solve battery problems
The iPhone 3.1.3 firmware has introduced problems for some people even as it has fixed them for others, say complaints on Apple’s support forums. Most critical is an issue with battery life, which can suddenly become erratic. A phone’s battery meter may potentially swing wildly, for instance going from 25 to 7 to 10 percent, then jumping back up to 24 percent.

Worst-case scenarios may see phones losing hours of power, and even running unusually hot. The v3.1.3 firmware was in part meant to correct battery meter trouble on the iPhone 3GS.

Another major problem involves iTunes playlists, which in some cases are failing to sync properly with the iPod touch. While files will copy over properly, playlists may be empty or simply absent. The glitch is believed to affect only smart playlists, and potentially only those with multiple criteria. Temporary workarounds may include reducing criteria to a single field, and/or deleting and remaking previous playlists.

Apple has yet to formally address or fix either of the cited errors.

If you want to ask Google and Apple in the application of the audit on the What is the difference? Many people may still looked totally bewildered, or will say, “no different from you? Apple some more strictly?”

No, the most important thing is two things:

1, Google is passive to the review, but Apple is a review of the initiative

Google is in fact in the Android Market allows users to decide whether the software should be removed, if an application is more than enough users to report, then Google would want to review to see if there is need to remove it. The Apple approach is completely different, who the shelves, who has been removed, we have only one person have the final say Apple.

The current Android Market has more than 6000 models applications, but only about 60 applications were invited out of the game – Android users will be those who refuse will always work together to process, malicious programs, people resent the program kicked out.

Second, Google is irresponsible, but Apple is more responsible?

Apple employs over 40 individuals to review the application to do, each person should be to examine nearly 424 applications per week. But it is irresponsible to prove that Google do? Perhaps you will say, Google will be put at risk the user, which the user as a mouse. However, Apple have the ability to line by line review of code? Definitely not.

There was built-in user information spying game has hurt many users report only after the user has been removed due to App Store, but Apple is not the focus of audits on the security. In contrast, although the Android Market there are many areas for improvement, however audit / Remove Programs now are all normal

There are few iPhone games that I would label as a ‘premium’ title or as a ‘must have’ and one would expect a $10 title to garner such a nod, but Gameloft’s Terminator Salvation unfortunately falls short of receiving such accolades. That’s not to say the game is horrible. Far from it, actually, but I just expected more than two hours of gameplay. At the very least, I hoped to walk away with the desire to replay the game. It seems as though a lot of folks have felt that way: Gameloft has since slashed the price of the game to $6, which is a bit more tolerable for the eight-level shooter.

If you’ve played Brothers In Arms for the iPhone, the control scheme is exactly the same in TS. In all, there are four control schemes, but the default scheme is definitely the easiest to use. One scheme allows you to control the character (John Connor or Marcus Wright) using the accelerometer, but I have no idea why anyone would want to do that. Ever. Seriously.

The default setup has an on-screen joystick to your left that controls horizontal and lateral movement while swiping across the screen with other phalanges points you in whatever direction you want to go. Sauron’s eye must be tapped should you wish to fire upon your enemies.

Aiming for your enemies on the iPhone screen isn’t too difficult, as the game features auto-targeting. When you point the crosshairs of your machine gun in the general vicinity of an enemy, you’ll automatically lock on.

There is plenty of variation between enemy types, but the AI is lacking. That said, we’ve yet to see any game on the iPhone with impressive AI, so we’re not too surprised. They do mix things up a bit; each enemy you encounter has their respective strengths and weaknesses, so you’ll have to adjust strategy accordingly.

Mini-games and bonuses are virtually non-existent in TS. Other than some really lackluster BioShock-like vending machine hacking games and the ability to replay the game as a T-600, what you see up front is what you get.

There’s nothing compelling enough that makes me want to come back and play the game a second time around. The graphics and 3D rendering are fairly good, but we noticed a good amount of framerate lag throughout the 2 hour game.

Terminator fans might dig it, but I’d have a hard time recommending it to anyone else. Big Head Games and Dark Horse Comics have a top-down Terminator shooter hitting the App Store in the next day or so, so it’ll be interesting to see which fares better.

Score another one for the iPhone. Yahoo is abandoning its mobile app for the Blackberry and other smartphones in order to focus more on its recently relaunched iPhone app. For every other phone, it is concentrating development efforts around the mobile browser experience. People applying for the smartphone app, which is still in beta, are receiving a notice (reproduced below) stating that “Yahoo has decided to cease development” of the app on May 20th. Yahoo Mobile now only has eyes for the iPhone. Rather than create a million apps for every other phone, it is standardizing on delivering the same experience through the mobile browser. Or so it would seem.

A Yahoo spokesperson confirms:

We are reprioritizing some products to help us better deliver the best possible experiences to consumers on mobile. To streamline our services, we will not develop Yahoo! Mobile for smartphones to focus our efforts on mobilizing Yahoo!, improving Yahoo! Mobile for web and Yahoo! Mobile for iPhone as well as developing new and engaging experiences for consumers, partners and advertisers.

We currently have mobile products that reach hundreds of different devices (including Blackberry), and we continue to expand that comprehensive list.

The company announced a revamped Yahoo Mobile in February, and rolled it out in April with a new iPhone app and browser support for more than 300 devices. Yahoo Mobile now combines mobile search, your email, IM, and social messaging streams, and personalized Yahoo content such as news, sports, stocks, and RSS feeds.

Standardizing on the mobile browser certainly makes economic sense. When it comes to developing apps, Yahoo needs to pick a platform and it is clearly going with the iPhone. Every other phone will have to do with the mobile browser for now. (Although, Yahoo says it will develop apps for other platforms when it sees enough demand. Update: Indeed, I have been able to confirm that new apps for the Blackberry and other mobile platforms with a different look and feel than the discontinued smartphone app are in the works). While Yahoo is putting a lot of effort into making the mobile browser experience more app-like, it will still never be as fully-functioning as a customized mobile app. There is nothing wrong with betting on the mobile browser. But just last March during a briefing I had with Adam Taggart, head of product marketing for Yahoo Mobile, when I asked whether Yahoo was leaning more towards distribution through apps or mobile browsers, he replied:

We are embracing both, apps and browser. We as Yahoo are all about ubiquity. We have a renewed appreciation for the browser because they are getting materially better, but you can always do more with an app on your phone. In the immediate time frame you will see a lot more standalone vertical apps coming out of Yahoo.

He positioned the other smartphone apps as a way to address people with Blackberies and other Web-capable phones who have iPhone envy. Here is how he positioned the smartphone apps which Yahoo is now abandoning:

The smartphone app is a way to turn your smartphone into an iPhone at no additional cost, if you are envying the iPhone.

The smartphone app actually included some features not found in the iPhone app, such as a socially aware address book which could pull contacts from the phone’s native address book and merge that with your Facebook friends, IM buddies, or other contacts on the Web. Don’t expect that feature to come to a mobile browser anytime soon.

Here is the text of the email sent to interested beta testers:

Yahoo! has decided to cease development of the Yahoo! Mobile smartphone app
effective Wednesday, May 20th. So you will not be provided access to the
beta program for this product.

For the time being, we will be focusing our efforts on the newly-launched
Yahoo! Mobile experience for browsers (available at new.m.yahoo.com) and
for the iPhone (available via the Apple App Store).

We really want to thank you for your interest in being a beta tester. The
feedback we receive during these programs is extremely helpful in improving
the customer experience across all of Yahoo!s mobile products.

In the meantime, stay tuned for more exciting new mobile product releases
from Yahoo!. Theres a lot coming and we want to hear your feedback!
