After yesterday’s mildly-dubious Motorola Shadow leak, the handset has shown up in the wild again, this time courtesy of HowardForums. We described the Shadow as Motorola’s version of the HTC EVO 4G, only without the WiMAX, and that continues to look roughly true; like the EVO 4G the Motorola handset has both microUSB and mini HDMI connections, but it has a 4.1-inch display and a 720MHz OMAP3630 processor.

There’s also 8GB of onboard memory and a microSD card slot, together with an 8-megapixel camera. According to HowardForums member wnrussell, who took the above photo, the Shadow feels lighter in the hand than the Motorola DROID, likely a side-effect of losing the slide-out keyboard mechanism. Previous rumors had tipped the Shadow as hitting the market in June or July 2010, on the Verizon network.

Now that the long awaited 2.1 update for the Droid has hit, are you bored with it already? Root it and flash a custom ROM. And most custom ROM’s include the 3D draw and 5 home screens. There are many root apps that also add extra functionality to your phone.

How to Root DROID 2.1 Update

1. Downgrade using the 2.0.1 SBF file here.
2. Download the 2.1 update.zip from here.
3. Download the attached .zip file from here, and name it droid-ESE81-update-2.zip
4. Open command prompt and run the following command to combine them:
5. copy /b signed-voles-ESE81-from-ESD56.fa406da6.zip+droid-ESE81-update-2.zip update.zip
6. Then copy the update.zip to your SDCard, reboot to STOCK recovery
7. In recovery, press Volume + and Camera then use the D-pad to select Apply update.zip
8. Voila, DROID 2.1 has been rooted successfully.

Note: Proceed with caution, you will be responsible if anything goes wrong. We take no liability in anything that may go wrong. And, this does NOT update the recovery image to 2.1’s recovery.

Motorola mobile launches OCNN

Today Motorola launched OCNN, the Ocho Cinco News Network. You might not get the same news quality as you would with CNN but OCNN is sure to be quite entertaining. For those of you that don’t know, Chad Johnson of the Cincinnati Bengals who changed his name to Ocho Cinco and is one of the most outspoken and unpredictable players in the NFL.

Motorola i1 gets clearer:Opera Mini default browser?

The guys over at Engadget has gotten some leaked information on the upcoming Motorola i1. The camera will not be the previously suspected 3MP but a 5MP and Opera Mini has been tapped as the i1’s default browser.

If this is true this will be the second Android device not to include one of Google’s core Android apps. Surprisingly enough, like the first, this is also a Motorola Blur device. Anyone getting suspicious yet? Maybe Motorola and Google are having a behind the scenes disagreement. But, once again MotoBlur is not a “Google Experience” phone so it can be modified to the carriers liking. I actually would like to see Opera Mini in action on an Android device, how bout you?

Multiple sources (read: MobileCrunch & BGR ) are claiming that Verizon Wireless will launch a Buy One Get One (BOGO) promotion today that will include both the Motorola Droid and HTC Droid Eris. The Palm Pre Plus, Palm Pixi Plus, LG Chocolate Touch, Samsung Alias 2 and any WinMo phone of equal or lesser value.

Dell Mini 5 will run 'something newer' than Android 1.6 at launch

We’ve been able to confirm in a chat with Dell spokesfolks this evening that the lovely Mini 5 won’t ship with the Android 1.6 build (also known as Donut ) that we’ve seen so far — instead, it’ll be running “something newer.” They wouldn’t say what that newer version would be — and to be fair, we’re not sure they even knew since Android is always a moving target on account of Google’s breakneck development pace — but it was specifically mentioned that Flash compatibility was something they had on their radar, suggesting that something really, really fresh might be needed. Then again, they also mentioned that the giant phone / MID / thingamajig is going to be totally upgradeable, something that fellow Android skinners HTC and Motorola have both had to reassure the Android-buying public over. How this all shakes out remains to be seen, but let’s put it this way: Eclair , at minimum, seems to be a lock by the time the Mini 5 is on a shelf near you.
